Paper vs leaf: Carbon footprint of single-use plates made from renewable materials

چکیده

Plastic pollution of the natural environment world-wide is ubiquitous. More than 80% marine litter made plastics, 70% which originates from disposable items, so plastic disposables need to be replaced with renewable materials. However, it important investigate environmental impact alternatives through their life cycle, in order support sustainable consumption and production. In this study, carbon footprint plates two different materials (paper, tree leaves) were analysed using cycle assessment. The leaf plate was produced India paper Finland, but both used disposed Sweden. results showed that had higher footprint, due long-distance transport use fossil fuel-based electricity for Scenario analysis indicated emissions associated lower when replacing air freight sea economies scale expanded For plate, processing stage shown contribute most emissions. These could lowered by applying a biodegradable coating. comparison benefit being biodegradable, not enough compete consider less environmentally damaging alternative. increase sustainability food supply chain, will just improve material single plates, especially since idea seen as sustainable, improved have potential offset anticipated growth service sector where items are widely used.

Foam Materials Made from Carbon Nanotubes

1.1 What is CNT foam? Foam is a macroporous material and comes in many forms, such as polystyrene shock absorbers, dish-washing sponges, and foam board insulation. This chapter describes a technique to prepare foam materials from carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The use of a CNTmade foam as a kitchen sponge may not be a good idea, however. We of course expect the nano-carbons to have a specific functio...

Plates made of piezoelectric materials: When are they really piezoelectric?

This paper aims at presenting in a synthetic way mathematical results that have been rigorously and recently derived by the authors. These results deal with the simplified but accurate modeling of linearly piezoelectric thin plates. It is shown how mathematical tools lead to two different situations linked to either sensors or actuators devices. Moreover we enlighten the fact that for some piez...

Thermal Stability of Thin Rectangular Plates with Variable Thickness Made of Functionally Graded Materials

In this research, thermal buckling of thin rectangular plate made of Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs) with linear varying thickness is considered. Material properties are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The supporting condition of all edges of such a plate is simply supported. ...

Hierarchical Composites Made Entirely from Renewable Resources

Recent interest in the utilisation of greener materials has reinitiated the interest in natural fibres and/or fibrils as reinforcement for polymers. However, such bio-based composites often exhibit properties that fall short of expectations due to (i) inadequate processing conditions, resulting in filler agglomeration and poor filler dispersion within the matrix, (ii) variations in natural fibr...

The Multifunctional Environmental Energy Tower: Carbon Footprint and Land Use Analysis of an Integrated Renewable Energy Plant

The Multifunctional Environmental Energy Tower (MEET) is a single, vertical, stand-alone renewable energy plant designed to decrease the primary energy consumption from fossil fuels, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, to maximize the energy production from renewable sources available in place and to minimize land use. A feasibility case study was performed for the city of Rome, Italy. Several ...
